And more!

ARTCO is ON NOW in the ART CUBE PROJECT, LEONGATHA

Young people! The Art Cube Project!

“What does Community Mean to You?”

An installation created by local young people and artists.

A FREE ART WORKSHOP WAS HELD
SUNDAY 31st AUGUST
FOR CREATIVE YOUNG FOLKS

With resident ARTCO artist, creative arts therapist, and Inverloch resident, Dr Carla van Laar.

We WERE thrilled t host a free workshop for to explore ‘community’ and what it means to our local kids and teens.
This was a highly hands on workshop where we generated ideas, meaning and ART together!!!

We used sustainable, up cycled cardboard to create 2D and 3D works that come together as an evocative installation in the South Gippsland Art Cubes over the coming Spring months.

Big thanks to all our young creators and the adults who brought them along from around South Gippsland; Inverloch, Wonthaggi, Poowong, Cowes, Foster, Leongatha – incredible!

The art works show many themes of what matters to our young leaders, from the CFA, markets, schools and cafes, to caring for the environment, friends and family, and qualities such as connectedness, kindness and love.

You are invited to visit the Art Cube in Leongatha this Saturday!

Carla will be there from
10am – 2pm

Find the cube in the council car park, opposite woolworths.

Make your own 3D sculpture and add it to our installation!

We would love to record a video diary to go with the installation, or collect your written story about community and what it means to you.

These will be added to the webpage so that visitors to the Art Cube Project can find out more about our young artists and leaders, and what is important to you when it comes to community.

Viewpoints is a dynamic training method combining physical movement with psychological awareness, emphasising improvisation, spontaneity, and collaboration. Originating in the 1970s, it explores space, time, shape, and sound to foster creativity and ensemble skills. Unlike traditional acting techniques that focus on internal emotions, Viewpoints balances physicality with psychological states. It promotes authentic performances, empowering young performers to express themselves with confidence and freedom.

Week 1:

  • build skills in improvisation and impulse,
  • facilitate spontaneous performance,
  • foster confidence,
  • form a cohesive ensemble.

Week 2:

  • reinforce the skills of week one,
  • work with incorporating text,
  • bring the liveliness and spontaneity of improvised performance to text.

Meet Henry De Oleveira, a passionate actor and dedicated theatremaker based in Naarm / Melbourne, with a vibrant portfolio and a heart committed to inspiring young artists.

A Federation University graduate, Henry currently tutors Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) undergraduate and postgraduate film-making students through the art of working with actors.

His journey began with immersive theatre internships and performances, where he developed a unique approach that emphasises creativity, collaboration, and confidence.

With Henry as a mentor, young people will learn from someone who is excited to share the transformative power of theatre.
