Casey Sweetman – First Nations Artist

Artist’s Statement

Hi, my name is Casey Sweetman (Weston), I am a Boon Wurrung and Yorta Yorta woman living here on county. I’m a contemporary artist and have been creating art for over twenty years.
I studied and gained qualifications in cultural arts in 2010-2012. Since then, I have been in multiple exhibitions, and completed numerous commission pieces. I even won an Australian Cancer Council art award for outstanding Indigenous artwork presented by Cancer Council Victoria.

I love being able to connect with my culture, people, and land through my art and being able to share my journey with others. I hope my art inspires a greater understanding of the importance of connecting to the land and provides insight into how beautiful that knowledge can be.
Casey’s artworks, like this one, “Seeing Truth”, feature intricate linework and detail. Her paintings are featured in the local artist’s exhibition at the Inverloch Pop-Up ART CO until the end of January 2024.
