SELF CARE through MARTIAL ARTS with Black Belt VICKIE SIMOS at the 2022 Creative Mental Health Forum and Self Care Retreat

“I have worked in many industries over the years, but have stayed true to my two passions – Martial Arts Mental Health, which is the basis of my new business “Thelo” – the Greek translation for, I want, I need. It combines and uses martial arts as an alternative to mainstream therapy”. – Vickie Simos

Vickie’s autobiography The Boxer Within (2017) – illuminates her experiences with depression and anxiety and how Martial Arts helped her overcome those mental issues.

The 2022 Creative Mental Health Forum and Self Care Retreat is excited to welcome Vickie as an experiential self care workshop facilitator.

How does Martial Arts (MA) relate to self-care?

When we are stressed and push ourselves to breaking point, we feel it in our minds and in our body.

In Martial Arts Therapy, Vickie focuses on integrative mind and body practices, including:

learn how to counter unproductive narratives inside your mind
redirect negative energy
align your mind and body
learn how to self-regulate, be calm, discipline, respect, basically learn to ‘be’
be empowered over struggles with attention or trouble focusing, including with ADHD type disorders
increase your self-confidence
better manage and release anger or anxiety
re-establish psychological growth through physical movement

Martial Arts can help create new neural pathways, through processes better known as neuroplasticity, which will assist in achieving the above.
