‘Women of the World’ exhibition NYC

Art Therapy Supervision

Bringing together artworks by 400 women painters from around the world, the mission of this exhibition is close to my heart!

I was thrilled to be invited to participate by my Linkedin colleague, Carly Aguilera, Director of the ‘South Art Dealer’ gallery in New York City. Carly’s vision for this exhibition is to help address the historical and ongoing paucity of opportunities for women artist’s works to be seen.

Along with the 399 other women artists, I will be painting a small artwork and sending it over to be exhibited in a massive installation in April this year.

Artists from fifteen countries have registered; England, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, France, Cyprus, Greece, Israel, India, Australia, Ireland Canada, USA, Cuba & Costa Rica.

It will be a thrill to see these artworks hanging side by side representing women from around the globe, whilst honouring the unacknowledged artworks made by countless women across time.

I see my participation in this event as a contribution to the re-authoring of stories about women and our art. In these new stories our crafts, our ways of knowing and the things that are important to us are valued and afforded opportunities to be seen, witnessed, celebrated and influential. Collectively we are part of creating ‘art her-storical’ discourses that we can live and work within.

My forthcoming article Seeing her stories: finding a place in the landscape of art therapy literature will be published in the next edition of ANZJAT and invites art therapists to cultivate ‘art her-storical’ lenses through which to view our field of practice.
