Conny Weyrich, (Dates of making left to right: 19/3/2020, 29/3/2020, 31/3/2020). “Collage of Calm”. Photo of three collages – magazine images, found word poems. HxW 20cm x 50cm. Melbourne, Australia.

On 16th March 2020, I began a daily process of creating a ‘collage of calm’. This process provides structure and ritual to my days during the lockdown. They are a daily mindfulness practice and a way to document and share my inner world.

My hope is that they will provide a diary of emotions and thoughts from each day, illustrating the changing levels in my energy, focus, optimism and hope, as well as broader reflections on the lessons for societies and the world.

So far I have created 16 collages which are all shared on my IG account @sensemakingspace, the final number is entirely open at this stage.

Hi Conny! I am quite taken with the relationship between these three collages as they sit side by side. I notice the organic shapes of the torn edges in quiet contrast with the straight edges of the cut out words and even the recognisable imagery of the found pictures. The shapes created in between the collages seem soft and organic, irregular, and moving, like a slow dance between the art works as they communicate with each other.

Thanks Carla, I am curious to see what story unfolds as I continue this process. This unusual time feels indeed like a dance as I am finding my rhythm in this different reality.
