Donika Fazliu. (16/03/2020) ‘We rise, We fall, We rise again’ 20cmx10cmCollage; oil crayon, ink, paper, board, glue, eucalyptus leaves. location: Melbourne
My bubble of reality had just burst in regards to the seriousness of Covid-19, I was highly anxious when beginning this process. I begun by rubbing oil crayons vigorously on paper over Eucalyptus leaves, leaving outlines of the leaf’s shape on the paper. I then highlighted the makings with an ink applicator, contrasting and highlighting the quality of the oil crayons. When the paper was filled with colour I scrunched and folded the paper. I continued by cutting the original piece of paper into semi-circular shapes. These shapes reminded me of people. I cut multiple sizes and begun to lay them down, huddled toward the bottom of the black board. This reminded me of us all, experiencing the same phenomena named ‘Covid-19’. I decided to represent the virus, it is present within the top half of the image. It reminds me of an ominous entity, making its way toward us. Curiously it is made out of the same paper material, and is an outline of a eucalyptus leaf. It does not touch the semi-circles, yet comes quite close.
