Experience the Practice-led, Creative Approach to Supervision with Dr Carla van Laar’s “Supervision Studio”

Art is a Way of Knowing

There is a difference between making art to “express something”, and making art as a form of inquiry, using creative process as a means of knowledge production – employing art as a way of knowing.

The thing that makes Supervision Studio truly different to other “creative supervision” offerings, is the absolute centering of arts-based practice from beginning to end of our time together.

As a facilitator, I am deeply grounded in the philosophy and values that underpin arts-based practice, and these inform every aspect of the Supervision Studio process.

These philosophy and values have taken shape over decades of practice and my Doctoral research into sharing women’s stories through art. At their core, and in my heart,  is an absolute commitment to practice-led inquiry, a reverence for the interconnection of all life, and a belief in the capacity of organic structure to provide a container that is alive with energy and growth.

Supervision Studio has an organic structure. We come together with a shared intention, and the time is organised into opportunities to engage in a number of creative and collaborative, connecting processes.

The content reveals itself as the session progresses.

Each experience that we share share together informs what will happen next, the threads that connect our experiences together, the meanings that will emerge, the shapes our art making will take and the knowledge that will be born.
