10cm x 12cm (Pagoda Tree/Photograph): Origami paper on round cork coaster. Melbourne
During the COVID-19 lock down, all my volunteer works have stopped and
classes have been cancelled. Ever since then, I have been self-isolating myself at home.
Like most of us, my sense of resilience feels increasingly frayed. My mind is consumed by the spread of the coronavirus and its impacts on our health, our loved ones, home countries, economy and students. Many places (essential and nonessential) where people seek solace in time and social connections are temporarily closed their doors. There is much that I cannot control right now, but I take the time to practice mindfulness.
This origami tree is called ‘Pagoda Tree’ which is constructed and assembled by 5 pieces of origami papers. The positive effect of origami upon my ruminating thoughts – those negative emotions and thoughts – were replaced with focused attention. A sense of pride and accomplishment follows when the Pagoda Tree is completed.
This photograph is my way to connect and support those who are going through these challenges. This reminds us that we are in social isolation, but we need not feel alone.

Thank you for being part of the online exhibition! I am very moved by your piece, both the photograph of your delicate pagoda tree, and your thoughtful description. X Carla.

Hi Eric , we very much agree with your comments, it is very stressful to not know about what is happening next and how long we will be isolated!! We all need to look for our inner strength and concentrate on the beauty of nature around us , hopefully individuals will help the more vulnerable in our society and after this horrible event we will be more unselfish and in materialistic , we all need to use this break in our lives to start something anew , Mum and Graeme x
