“Meeting Places: Art Based, Collaborative Goal Setting and Therapeutic Reviews”

Institutional practices often require art therapists and holistic counsellors to engage in ‘assessments’, ‘treatment plans’ and ‘case reviews’. The mere language of these practices can feel incongruent with the values we hold, and challenge our authenticity as holistic and client centred practitioners.

In this workshop, I share ways of working that I have developed working in institutions including the justice system, hospitals and mental health care services.

You will learn how to use collaborative, visual, experiential and art based methods to successfully provide institutions with what they require, whilst maintaining your own sense of ethics and professional identity.

We explore and practice how to create ‘meeting places’ in which:

• Assessments can be conducted collaboratively with clients

• We can use visual methods in creating therapeutic goals with clients

• Art based inquiry can be ways to review client progress together

• These methods can assist rather than disrupt the therapeutic alliance.
