Heide Gallery curators request an Art Therapy perspective for Joy Hester’s biography

Art Therapy Supervision

On Tuesday 11th February I admit to being delighted as I met with Heide Gallery’s two wonderful curators, Lesley Harding and Kendrah Morgan. I had made contact with them expressing my support and interest in their programming for 2020, especially the retrospective of Joy Hester’s art and the development of her biography for publication in 2021. I am an admiring reader of their previous publications, including their co-authored biography of John and Sunday Reid, ‘Modern Love’, and Lesley’s essay about women artists painting domestic themes in the collection ‘Making Modernism’.

Imagine my excitement when, over coffee and excellent conversation, they invited me to engage with various source material they have gathered for compiling Hester’s biography, and to offer an art therapy perspective as a layer for the book!

I am very happy and absolutely honoured to make a contribution to this passion project that lies close to my heart – making women’s stories visible through art.

Hi Carla this sounds amazing! I’m obsessed with the history of Heide so much so that my business name was given to me by Mirka Mora herself.

I look forward to reading about it.

Hi Louise! It is fascinating, I agree! So many over lapping stories of artists, art lovers, relationships, scandals, triumphs, tragedies… and art. Endless inspiration, I can understand your obsession!
