Carla van Laar, (18/02/20), “Fallen Gum Leaves”. Dimensions Height 28cm x Width 18cm, ink, pastel and acrylic paint on canvas, Inverloch.
These gum leaves fell on the out door table and seemed the perfect subject matter to sit with and paint. They bear many layers of significance, including mourning for the losses of beautiful bush flora and fauna here in Australia after the fires, the traditional welcome to country of Australia’s first peoples, and personal memories especially from childhood and the many hours spent climbing gum trees alone and with friends. I guess the idea of being alone and with friends resonates as we launch this online lock down art exhibition here in this virtual gallery. Sending love! Carla.
