Congratulations PACFA for successfully achieving full membership of AHPA (Allied Health Professions Australia).
This is excellent news for all members of PACFA and anyone considering becoming a member including Creative Arts Therapists.
PACFA was formerly an affiliate member of AHPA, and is now officially a full member. AHPA is the National body that represents the interests of Allied Health Professions. So, full membership of AHPA means that PACFA members will benefit from the status of recognition as members of the general Allied Health workforce when it comes to policy, conditions and inclusion.
This status also adds weight to PACFA’s particular advocacy efforts on behalf of its membership. PACFA has a strategic plan that includes lobbying for Medicare to include access to therapeutic services provided by PACFA members. AHPA membership is a step closer to this goal. It also means PACFA have a better case to make when advocating to bodies such as NDIS to bring fees for services provided by PACFA members into alignment with the other Allied Health professions.
Importantly, full AHPA recognition distinguishes the PACFA membership’s professional standards as on par with the other Allied Health professions, and provides the sector – including service users, policy makers and employers – with clarity about regulation, professionalism, skills and qualifications.
