Linda Petho, (April 2020). “Being Held”. Soft pastel on paper. Australia.
Here is my a painting I created this week. It is not in my usual style, but I was inspired by the art therapy exercise we did during class this week of ‘Being Held’. The first pic I did during the exercise was a soft pastel painting (bottom picture). It is soft, simple and uncluttered. Much like my actual experience of being held was. It was such an emotionally felt exercise, I wanted to explore this moment more.

Linda, as I post up all the artworks coming in from people around the world, I am starting to see themes. I feel as though your artwork relates to the previous one “me and the tree” by Anja from the Netherlands, and also Dorys from Venezula’s artwork “The meeting”. All of these artworks have a quality of holding and being held about them. In yours I especially feel the quality of support, and a mutual leaning on each other. I am left wondering if the sense of being “held” by something beyond ourselves is a theme emerging from this time of locking down.
