Introducing Anuradha Acharya

Members of the 2025 Creative Mental Health Forum extend a heartfelt welcome to Anuradha Acharya, an inspiring leader who will be joining us in May 2025.

Anuradha, or ‘Anu’ is a compassionate psychologist with over 15 years of experience dedicated to supporting survivors of violence, sexual exploitation, and trafficking in Nepal. Her unwavering commitment focuses on helping survivors heal and grow after these traumas. This has led Anu to discover and embrace arts-based and creative approaches as healing modalities.

As a lead researcher and consultant, Anuradha has made significant contributions to psychological research with trafficking survivors and has worked tirelessly to establish service delivery standards for children and women in Nepal. Her efforts have been instrumental in building the capacity of grassroots-level organisations and mental health professionals in and around Kathmandu.

Anuradha is the founder and current Program Coordinator of Kumudini, an organization passionately committed to supporting women and children vulnerable to sexual abuse, sex trafficking, and related violence. Through Kumudini, she works directly with survivors and their families, addressing crucial care and protection issues.

In addition to her role at Kumudini, Anuradha is a founding member of the Nepal Institute of Mental Health (NIOMH), where she envisions and actively works toward developing a sustainable, inclusive, and universally accessible regional mental health ecosystem in Nepal. Furthermore, Anuradha serves as a board member of the Alliance Against Trafficking in Women and Children (AATWIN), a national-level network of non-governmental organisations dedicated to strengthening the campaign against human trafficking and advocating for the human rights of women and children.

Anuradha’s unwavering commitment and expertise have had a profound impact on the lives of survivors, supporting empowerment from human trafficking and the protection of vulnerable women and children.

We are thrilled to welcome Anuradha as a facilitator at the 2025 Creative Mental Health Forum and Collective Care Retreat.

About Anuradha's workshop

Anuradha introduces her workshop:

“I am thrilled to present an engaging and informative session at the upcoming 2025 Creative Mental Health Forum.

The focus of my presentation will be “The Situation of Human Trafficking and Creative Approaches in Supporting Mental Health & Psychosocial Wellbeing in Nepal.” This topic is not only relevant but also critical to my work supporting healing and post-traumatic growth with trafficking survivors in Kathmandu and beyond.

The session will offer an overview of the cultural and systemic context in Nepal, and the creative approaches we have embraced in this challenging work.

Particpants can look forward to learning and performing an adaptation of a Traditional Nepali dance, and experiencing a glimpse of Nepal’s cultural richness firsthand. The dance movement segment promises to infuse energy and vibrancy into the session.

After the dance, we will have a 30-minute Q&A session where participants can engage with me, sharing experiences, and learning about my self-care techniques. This interactive segment aims to foster meaningful discussions and provide valuable insights. This engaging and immersive session will leave attendees informed, inspired, and culturally enriched. I am excited to bring this enlightening experience to the forum, and I am looking forward to meeting you all and making some wonderful new relationships in Australia as we share our cultures with each other.”
