Artist’s Statement: Waterfall Series
I have spent many years exploring and hiking to beautiful waterfalls throughout Australia. My deep connection with nature and its boundless energy, especially with water, is a recurring theme in many of my well-loved series of works.
I grew up in Tasmania and enjoyed many pristine waterfalls as a child. More recently, I have visited Snug Falls, Agnes Falls, The Grampians, and the Northern Territory, where I swam in and explored the rock pools and waterfalls. The wondrous feeling of swimming through the water as it tumbles over the rocks above, looking out through the waterfall from behind it, makes me feel very fortunate to live in such a beautiful Country.
I am endlessly inspired by the abstract patterns of the water falling and the splash it creates, alongside the rugged rocks. In these large expressive paintings, I have enjoyed creating a sense of energy and movement, in places gentle, in others rugged with texture, abstract patterns and markings of water falling and splashing.
