Jaya Narayan’s “Amplifying your unique voice” – Project 2021

Arts Therapist Jaya Narayan is on a mission to amplify and mainstream the voices of creative therapists who identify as BIPOC, members of minority ethnic groups, LGBTQI, or peripheral in any other way.

She says, “My intention is to video interview and put a spotlight on our unique practice”.

I asked Jaya to share a bit more about her vision for the project:

“I am a firm believer in creating safe spaces where each one of us is ‘seen and witnessed’. A courageous way to claim our power is by amplifying our unique textured voices. In my experience, this profound act can often become a beacon of hope for ourselves and others. Recently someone spoke about the process of claiming space akin to walking with a bright lamp showing others a way.

In 2021, I want to focus on connecting with practitioners who often find themselves on the periphery.

Like me, you may be situating yourself here.

I find that not enough attention is paid to our voices in the field.

I think its time to stop waiting and take charge.

This call is for you if you find yourself as the non-dominant voice due to

Personal/ Ethnic or religious identity Eg. BIPOC/ LQBTQI

Disability and/ or ageism.

Possibly at the intersection of more than one such barriers.

I invite creative art therapist, Pyschodramatists, Dance Movement therapist, Somatic Practitioner, Music therapist, Drama therapist or any other unique modality of practice.

I hope that through this process, we learn from each other, establish a connection and a rightful place in the world.

Likely you may be working in a context where you feel alone or isolated due to your values or approach.

My idea is for us to record a session via zoom where we can create an international resource guide for others to experience our embodied authenticity. The conversation will allow our viewers to gain an experiential sense of you, your uniqueness, your wishes and challenges through a creative modality.”
